Welcome! My name is Jason Cowell and I am excited you're exploring the realm of Sport and Performance Psychology (SPP). My interest in performance excellence began in the physical domain. As a result, I obtained my B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Applied Exercise Science from California State University, San Marcos. Through my individual journey of obtaining success, I became curious of the psychological factors that influence the performance of various fields such as sport, academics, music, theater, medicine, as well as other high demanding occupations. This reflection motivated me to further my education by obtaining a M.S. in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Western States. I am also currently a member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
I work with individuals from a variety of performance domains as well as teams to develop mental skills and a healthy identity that carries them beyond their performance domain and into other aspects of wellness. I also work with parents of young performers to navigate the challenges and demands of today’s society. My mission is to educate and develop the mentals skills of my clients that support a healthy individual identity while optimizing performance.
My theoretical approach includes an integrative theory combining cognitive behavioral theory (CBT) with a humanistic approach. With this mindset, I seek to understand the client's interpretation of various stimuli and use that as a guide toward effectively coaching that individual.
